Biography

Andrew P. Moratzka works in the Mining, Energy & Regulated Industries group at Mackall, Crounse & Moore, PLC.  In this capacity, Drew represents iron mines, paper companies, refineries, steel manufacturers and other large industrial customers in electric and gas rate cases and various other energy regulatory matters, assists clients with negotiating contracts for utility service, and litigates various utility and energy related issues.  In this capacity, Drew regularly appears before state public utilities commissions and administrative law judges. 

Drew also has extensive commercial litigation experience representing financial institutions and creditors.  He has appeared before Minnesota State Courts, United States Federal Court, Districts of Minnesota and South Dakota, United States Bankruptcy Court, District of Minnesota, the Bankruptcy Appellate Panel for the Eighth Circuit, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit.

Drew is a regular speaker on bankruptcy law topics, is a contributing editor to the American Bankruptcy Institute Journal, and is an active member of the Minnesota State Bar Association.  He was named an Up and Coming Attorney by Minnesota Lawyer in 2008 and has been a Minnesota Law & Politics Rising Star since 2007.

Mining, Energy & Regulated Industries

  • Extensive involvement in major gas and electric utility rate case proceedings on behalf of large industrial consumers
  • Numerous appearances before the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission on such matters as renewable energy credits, utility resource planning, and rate design
  • Litigated and negotiated dispute before the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission regarding application of the Minnesota Government Data Practices Act

  • Represented bankruptcy trustee in multi-million dollar minority shareholder action 
  • Lead bank counsel in complex multi-million dollar fraud action involving parallel dischargeability action in bankruptcy court and foreclosure/replevin state court action 
  • Lead auto-finance counsel in dischargeability action in bankruptcy court 
  • Numerous state court replevin proceedings on behalf of auto-finance companies
